Overview
St. Catherine Monastery situated on the Sinai Peninsula about 3 hours drive through the desert from Sharm El Sheikh. The scenery along the route is fascinating maybe with a stop at interesting spots including a small town to buy some souvenirs.
You will be Picked up from your hotel around 6.30am and driven for about 2.30 hours to the site at the foot of Mount Sinai.
It has significance to many faiths including Christianity, Islam and Judaism. you will see the oldest working Christian Monastery that is still home to the same order of monks who constructed it in the 4th Century.
You will also see the burning bush, a mosque and a really weird room that contains the bones and skulls of all the monks that have ever lived there”not always open”, there is also a piece of St Catherine’s finger bone on display.
You will then drive about 90 minutes to Dahab city, the biggest shopping area in South Sinai, where you will get the chance to browse for local Egyptian handicrafts, carpets, jewelry, perfumes, papyrus and other souvenirs. There you will have lunch at one of the local restaurants.
You will then be driven back to your hotel in Sharm about another 90 minutes.
